Both main sections, one barrel and the horn are stamped with the same serial number: K3830, which places the manufacture in 1950. This particular model is an excellent quality intermediate class Buffet clarinet, very similar to the model E13, and pre-dates the first top of the line R13 which began manufacture in 1955. All clarinets of this model were produced in France. The age of this clarinet indicates it is made from highquality grenadilla wood, no longer available today.

This makes it a much higher quality instrument than one you can buy new today. The tone of this high quality wood instrument is wonderfully rich and full, something not possible with any plastic clarinet. I used this clarinet in high school in the late 1960s, and it has not been played much or had new pads and corks since then. The instrument is currently in good playing condition, all keys, etc.

Are working well and it still sounds great. The instrument has no cracks or any history of cracks anywhere on the body, barrel or bell. Per photo there is a piece of cork missing on the upper main section which does not affect functionality in any way.

Also please be aware there is a small part of the horn that is a dark brown color, obviously part of the grain of the wood and released from the factory as such. It has no effect on the tone quality and it makes the instrument unique.

Two mouth pieces are included. One is stamped Noblet – 2V Paris France. The other is stamped Selmer – HS. Made in France.

Both are made of plastic and are in good condition. Also included is one extra barrel, stamped Buffet – Crampon & Co – A Paris – Made in France. It is approximately one-eighth of an inch shorter, which allows for greater flexibility in tuning, slightly higher than with the original barrel. The extra barrel is wood and perfectly matches the rest of the clarinet. Accessories include a swab, an almost full bottle of bore oil, cork grease, a metal reed holder and an assortment of reeds.

I no longer have the original case. Included is a LeBlanc case, into which the clarinet fits perfectly, and it provides excellent protection.
